LOS VINOS DEL AÑO 2004 DE EL MUNDO – Tinto de Toro, blanco de Rueda y un cava de la Valencia castellana

Los ‘vinos del año’ de EL MUNDO, esos galardones sin valor crematístico alguno atribuidos por nuestro periódico y por elmundovino.com desde 1994, recompensan en 2004, como siempre, a un tinto, un blanco y otro vino español llegados al mercado durante este año. Llegan ya los vinos de las añadas difíciles que han seguido a la fastuosa de 2001, y en ese contexto tienen particuolar mérito la clase y el equilibrio del Numanthia 2002 y del Náiades 2003 , dos vinos de las colindantes denominaciones Toro y Rueda. En cuanto al tercer vino del año, es un cava con añada procedente de una zona muy mencionada por razones extravinícolas, la del marco de Utiel Requena. Pero el Dominio de la Vega Brut Reserva Especial 2001 no llega aquí por oportunismo político –los boicots son estúpidos, y entre nuestras menciones de honor abundan como siempre los vinos catalanes- sino por méritos propios.

Ha sido una verdadera proeza la que en el fresco y húmedo 2002 ha logrado Marcos Eguren con su Numanthia, el vino español con nota más alta de los catados este año por elmundovino.com, lleno de elegancia, completo y más allá de los estereotipos sobre la potencia de Toro.

En cambio, el calurosísimo 2003 no ha sido óbice para que Viña Sila, la iniciativa de Víctor Rodríguez, Javier Alén y Jorge Ordóñez en Rueda, obtuviese unos miles de botellas de un verdejo fermentado en barrica en el que apenas si aflora la madera como es el Náiades (nombre definitivo tras el ‘Naia Des’ inicial), puro frescor y terciopelo.

En cuanto a otra joven bodega (como las otras dos premiadas), Dominio de la Vega, de San Antonio, junto a Requena, ‘escisión’ de una gran bodega clásica de la zona tras el cambio de propiedad de ésta, lleva tres años sacando cavas de una ligereza y una fragancia inesperadas, en particular su ‘millésimé, muchas veces premiado ya, que es un ensamblaje de macabeo (75%) y chardonnay.

Es la primera vez desde que atribuimos estos premios que un mismo vino repite galardón en EL MUNDO: ya en 2000 fue premiado como tinto del año el Numanthia 1998. Por otra parte, por segundo año consecutivo un producto valenciano llega a ‘vino del año’, tras el éxito del Quincha Corral 2001 de Mustiguillo en 2003.

Estos premios no se atribuyen necesariamente al ‘mejor vino del año’ en sentido absoluto, sino también pueden recompensar la personalidad, la innovación o la relación calidad-precio.
